I think that it is possible for a business to survive without a social media presence but the journey will be much harder! As technology improves, that’s where most people look for their information. A business can survive off of in person ads but who really watches ads or reads the news outlets anymore?

Hey Erica, I completely agree! I’d also add that it could depend on the industry and the company’s business goals. If a business is content with its current financial standing and visibility, there may not be an immediate need for change or growth at the moment.

Yes! Many businesses can survive without a social media presence; but in some cases won't be able to thrive as much. It depends on what kind of business as well.

The world is vast. In my experience of traveling, I realized that a lot of companies survive off of social media. But, that is changing as many companies begin to realize that their companies can thrive, and not just survive with the use of social media.

I ran into this issue in developing countries like Guinea, where many local companies did not see the purpose of social media presence or any kind of marketing. They are in it for the quick buck and to make money. The country as a whole does not really see the benefit in investing in marketing because they are not technologically as advanced as they should be. However, in this specific case, a consumer skin care company in Guinea can thrive using social media. However, a business such as a local restaurant, usually thrives off of word of mouth.

So, yes a company can definitely survive off of social media. But, will it thrive to its fullest potential without it?

Hey Sira! You made so many great points.

Your travel story really piqued my interest! If only they understood the true power of social media — the places and people they could connect with. It's incredible!

As you mentioned, yes, a company can survive without it. But I’d also add that there's a way to use social media strategically, so it’s not a crutch for your brand but rather another valuable channel. That way, if the world shifts again, you're not scrambling for your next move. The way companies approach social media is crucial when it comes to both surviving and thriving. Personally, I wouldn’t want social media to be the sole determinant of my business’s survival, and I think many feel the same way, which is why they often undervalue its importance. But if we can tailor our approach in a way that’s sustainable and integrated into the overall strategy, it can be a powerful asset.
